JANE PRETTYMAN – A NEW FRIEND

Posted by justjoe on 14th October 2009

Jane contacted me and ordered two posters from the Robert Shetterly portrait series of  “Americans who tell the truth”. From that order came a superlatively delightful three + hour conversation that was enlightining and hopeful. I would like to share some of the fruit of that gathering in the form of some of Jane’s past and present work.

Health care (circa John Edwards) yet even just as relevant today

1776 all over again

Limbaugh a disgrace to humanity

Posted by justjoe on 22nd December 2007

What is even more disgraceful is that anyone would listen to the corporate self serving dribble this Limbaugh guy serves up while real Americans serve over and over and over and over again giving life and limb.

Here is Rushes phoney soldier commentary (sad coming from a man who never served) followed by those who have served.

Maj. General Ret. John Batiste – commenting on the man who never served

Brian McGough – Iraq war Veteran

Thomas Young – Iraq War Veteren

Iraq War Vets vs. Rush who had college deferments and just did not want to serve

The final word from Rush on his “Phoney Soldier” commentary.

For the sake of fox channel this is what “Fair and Balanced” looks like.

Reverand William Sloan Coffin

by Robert Shetterly

A great man that I have only just begun to know remembered by great men who did.

Journal 4. 13. 06 William Sloane Coffin

by Robert Shetterly

When I go out to talk myself, I love to quote Bill Coffin. He said, "…If you lessen your anger at the structures of power, you lower your love for the victims of power." That says it all. It's what Terry Tempest Williams means by sacred rage. Whether it's a snail darter, a blackburnian warbler, or an Iraqi child being made collateral damage for someone’s unjust gain, the volatile mix of grief and anger and love fuels a holy flame…. http://snipurl.com/pk6r

"So he had the pastor’s heart but he he heeded the prophet’s calling. There burned in his soul a sacred rage – that volatile mix of grief and anger and love that produced what his friend, the artist and writer Robert Shetterly, described as “a holy flame.” During my interview with him he said, “When you see uncaring people in high places, everybody should be mad as hell.” If you lessen your anger at the structures of power, he said, you lower your love for the victims of power…… http://snipurl.com/pk6f
